SLASHTYPES is a free browser game that mixes the clean, focused feel of a minimalist typing test with the speed and brutality of a samurai hack-and-slash. You still measure your words per minute, but every word is now a demon standing in your way.

Why SLASHTYPES exists
Typing practice works, but it is easy to get bored of it. Staring at grey words while a counter ticks up does not feel like much of an achievement, even when your speed is improving. SLASHTYPES keeps everything that makes a typing test useful (real words, honest WPM and accuracy numbers, instant restarts) and gives every keystroke a consequence you can see and hear.
A correct key is a sword strike. A finished word is an enemy cut in half. A typo is a wound. Suddenly accuracy is not a percentage at the end of a test; it is the difference between surviving the next boss and losing your head.
What makes it different
- No timer in Survival. You are never rushed by a clock. Five lives and the cost of every typo create the pressure instead.
- No backspace. Like a real cut, a keystroke cannot be undone. This trains accuracy faster than any setting in a regular test.
- Bosses with three forms. An oni, a tengu king, a snow woman and a dragon god each transform twice, heal over time and attack first, forcing you to type a defense word under pressure.
- A real typing test inside. Time mode (15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds) removes bosses and death so you can measure pure speed, with your best result saved for every duration.
- Head-to-head races. Challenge a friend to a race through the exact same enemies, watch their battlefield live and send sabotage their way when your combo is high.
- English and Indonesian. Both the interface and the word lists are available in two languages.
How it is made
Everything you see is drawn in real time with code, with no image files for the characters. When an enemy dies, its body is rendered to a separate canvas and cut along the exact angle of your slash, so every kill splits differently. Every sound effect, from the sword swing to the boss's roar, is synthesized live with the Web Audio API.
The game is written in plain JavaScript with no framework and no install. It loads in seconds and runs in any modern browser on desktop or mobile.
Content warning
SLASHTYPES contains stylized blood, dismemberment and dark fantasy themes inspired by Japanese folklore. It is intended for teens and adults. You can reduce the effects at any time with the gore low option.
